If you love running, you’ve come to the right place.  Running is one of most beautifully uncomplicated of activities, requiring nothing more than a good pair of shoes and a place to run.  This makes it widely accessible, whether you are old or young, rich or poor, fit or out of shape.  If you can put one foot in front of another you can run.

At the same time, if your goal is to run faster, you need to think about your running training – while simply getting out and running will get you in shape when you are just starting out, for anyone who has aspirations to race, or to improve their times, proper training is essential.

All sports work on the principle of progressive resistance – meaning that as you work harder, what was once difficult gradually becomes easy – and with running there are several variables you need to manage to make progress and get faster.

Variations in distance, pace, and gradient will make the biggest difference, but knowing how to put them together to maximize the benefit of each and every workout is the key.  Get that right and you will see your times drop and your race day performance improve.
